The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
